The original Cala Lily and Leaf came as a floral gift from a friend I had not seen for several years. As beautiful as the flower was, it wasn't until I had forgotten about it on my mantelpiece for a couple of weeks, that the true beauty of the leaf revealed itself. Having dried naturally into this striking, sculptural curling form, I had to immortalise it, by capturing it's essence through photography. I chose this styling and colour to emphasis the texture and form. The colour indicates how precious this gift offered in friendship was to me. Maintaining quality control is very important to me, so I print everything myself on an Epson 9070 large format printer. Each print from the Golden Memorial series is printed on Archival Canson Print Making Rag 310gsm (Matte Paper). When considering what type of framing is suitable for this print, I recommend framing to the edge of the print using a black box frame with black spacers. This will give the overall impression that the gold leaf is floating/ hanging in a void of black.

I am a Melbourne artist who lives and breathes unconventional abstract photography with a BA in fine art photography, graduating in 2010 with distinction. With a background in science and ceramics and a hands-on approach, my art practice experiments with the compositional elements in a single photographic image through digital deconstruction and the deliberate physical disruption of the print surface, through cutting and folding techniques. Because of the evolutionary nature of the experimental process, 3D sculptural pieces are now emerging as part of the practice. I have regularly exhibited for over 15 years in group and solo shows and have been a finalist in many Australian art awards, winning the Inaugural Noel Counihan award in 2017. I established and curated a community photography group for eight years before opening my studio as a fine art printing service in 2017, which allows other artists direct access to a large format printer. Like most artists, I have multiple interests which include being a freelance photographer, a tutor in Photoshop and photography, and a fine art printer.
