About The Artwork

In the past the families in Greece have had a corner in the master bedroom where there were hanging the icons .The middle class had hanging a small piece of furniture named iconostasis where they kept the icons ,the votives and the wedding wreaths of the couple.Their role was to protect and honor  the family . Till in our days the person that is mainly  charged to keep family together is the mother. But the mother is also a woman with emotions desires dreams and passions for that reason she is symbolized by her body vibrating with life .The wreaths normally are the same for man and woman but I have chosen one more traditional for the female and more luxurious made by amethysts for the man ,who feels or he demands or hopes to be treated like a king .In the small drawers are kept the secrets of both of them .Behind are hidden ritual objects .

To be an artist means to me first of all to exist in a life full of substance and sense. Second, to perform the continuous effort to develop new visions, forms, and ways of aesthetic expression. My artistic nature found its expression through the visual arts. I studied at The Athens University of Fine Arts where a little later I came back to teach. I have chosen mosaic as a medium because it was unexplored in the fields of contemporary arts, I never forced the evolution of my personal style which was developed through research, work and experimentation. I see mosaic as a mixture of painting and sculpture and I am interested in aesthetically constructing forms and volumes, avoiding the trap of simply exploiting the charm of bright and colourful smalti, natural and semi-precious stones. Gradually I started to use other materials like found objects, Japanese paper tissues, crystals etc. thus creating a kind of mixed media. Lately I started to work with collages which I developed through research, experimentation and work, creating forms based on painterly principles, resulting in homogeneous compositions and not fragmentary images placed next to each other. What is common in both mosaic and collage is that I have to deconstruct materials, papers, stones etc and re-construct them as something new. I have had a career that would be considered international by exhibiting in many countries around the world and it was the same with my works which could be found in private collections and historical monuments in numerous countries.
