Us and Them (2019) is a conceptual, multi-layered, artwork exploring the idea of immigration in the US. Our broad individual interpretation of immigration policy and historical immigration acts throughout adds another level or complexity to this piece. An examination of the United States Immigration laws passed since 1790. To exhibit this aesthetic I choose to repurpose a 1968 Gottlieb & Co. pinball machine. The pinball machine machine back and sides are painted by hand and the playfield images and plastic hardware are custom created. The LED display runs for over 4 minutes listing the United States immigration laws passed since 1790. A video of the entire pinball machine and LED display is available at www.keithfrancisart.com.
