"Peaceful peace in all good morning, soft face, speech and thought, and only condors flying on the precipice of great danger. The huemul is a sensitive and tiny little beast, is akin to a gazelle, which is being related to the perfect. Its strength is in its flexibility. Defends the fineness of your senses: the delicate ear, watchful eye of water, the sharp smell. He, like other deer, often saved without a fight, with intelligence, which becomes an ineffable power. The huemul mean sensitivity of a race: fine senses, watchful intelligence, grace. And all this is defense, invisibes spurs, but effective spirit. Much less worn the condor in our deeds, and I am by now luzcamos other things that we have, but which we have not emphasized. Good is gleaning in the history of Chile acts of hospitality, which are many; fraternal actions that fill pages forgotten. No matter the extinction of the fine beast, in that geographical area; what matters is that the order of the gazelle has existed and continues to exist in the Chilean people. " Gabriela Mistral, Less condor and huemul (excerpt) 1925.
